Geographic Setting - Virginia Mountain Land For Sale
The third jewel of the Blue Ridge Range, the Virginia Highlands are bordered on the north by the Shenandoah Mountains and on the south by the Great Smokies.
Grayson and other Southwest Virginia counties are distinguished by the ancient geology of the surrounding landmass. Through the area flows the New River - the second oldest river in the world. The Appalachian chain boasts some of the oldest known rock formations.
Fox Creek Falls sits in the shadow of Mount Rogers, at 5,729 feet the highest point in Virginia, and among the most recognized peaks in all the East. A relic of the Ice Age, Mount Rogers and nearby peaks are more rounded and accessible than those in neighboring states. By airplane or on foot, these rocky highlands resemble the mountains of Colorado, not the southern Appalachians. No wonder they draw more than a million outdoor enthusiasts a year.
Fox Creek Falls takes advantage of this idyllic setting. Approach our community directly from Highway 603, a US Forest Service Scenic Byway, or using Rocky Hollow Road. The 3,500-foot elevation offers respite from hot summers below. Summer temperatures typically hold steady at 72 degrees.
